Is Switching Safe?

Yes. Research shows that switching from one GLP-1 medication to another is safe and well tolerated, as long as the timing is right.  At Evaro, we recommend leaving a 7-day gap between your last dose of one GLP-1 injection and your first dose of the new medication. 

This short “washout period” helps ensure the first medication is cleared from your system, reducing the chance of overlapping side effects.

The Switching Process: From Mounjaro to Wegovy 

Here’s what you can expect when switching with Evaro:

1. Assessment
Complete our quick online consultation. Our prescribers will review your health, your current Mounjaro dose, and how well you’ve tolerated treatment so far.

2. Discontinuation
You’ll stop Mounjaro. A 7-day washout period is recommended before starting Wegovy.

3. Starting Wegovy
When switching from Mounjaro (tirzepatide) to Wegovy (semaglutide), it's important to understand that there is no clinically established equivalent dose between the two. Clinical trials for Wegovy always start at 0.25 mg once weekly, regardless of prior treatment. Because of this, we offer two approaches for starting Wegovy, allowing you to choose the option that best fits your needs and preferences. Each comes with its own balance of effectiveness and side effect risk.

Recommended option:

You’ll start Wegovy at the standard 0.25 mg dose, regardless of the Mounjaro dose you were previously taking. This option follows clinical trial protocols and carries the lowest risk of side effects.

Option 2:

If you have tolerated your Mounjaro dose well and have used it for some time, you can request to start Wegovy at a dose that is more closely aligned with your previous Mounjaro dose. This may maintain effectiveness from the outset but may come with a higher risk of side effects.

What to Expect When Switching 

• Mild side effects (such as nausea, constipation, or diarrhoea) may return at first.

• Your appetite may fluctuate during the first few weeks as your body adjusts.

• Weight loss results vary – some people see changes quickly, while for others progress is steadier.
